About

Shaping therapy from science to you (and your family)

As humans, we face tremendously painful, stressful, and confusing experiences. We survive and cope using the ways our biologies, families, cultures, societies, and systems teach us. In turn, we might push away or become overwhelmed by the very pain, vulnerability, and inner experiences we need to find meaning. Therapy can be a powerful tool in your/your family's journey, with the support and expertise of a fitting professional. Having worked in a variety of international, educational, institutional, and clinical settings, Dr. Giboi [she/her] has been privileged to witness and dedicate her career to helping people across the lifespan to process and find meaning in their pain, build personalized coping strategies, and ultimately shape more meaningful identities and lives. Dr. Giboi is not about band-aid solutions, one-size-fits-all approaches, or by-the-book coping strategies. Instead, she is a doctor of clinical psychology, a practitioner of multiple gold standard interventions, and a talented therapist in crafting personal, empowering, and sustainable treatment solutions. Dr. Giboi's practice and expertise focuses on the treatment of trauma, identity, acculturation, neurodivergence, adjustment, and social-emotional development across the lifespan. Her supervision and consultation experience includes: child, adolescent, and adult assessment and therapy; family therapy; intensive/residential care; transition from intensive/residential care to meaningful outpatient care; social-emotional learning, policy, and practice; recovery from complex trauma; and the identity development of diverse, marginalized, hybridized, and intersectional populations. Dr. Giboi has conducted published, peer-reviewed research on the topic of transnational identity development. See: Giboi, C. J., & Nath, S. R. (2022). A qualitative examination of transnational identity development in multicountry immersers. International Perspectives in Psychology, 1-17. https://doi.org/10.1027/2157-3891/a000061 She has particular expertise working with complex trauma survivors, including but not limited to survivors of childhood abuse and neglect, sexual abuse and assault, cults, conversion therapy, religious and institutional trauma, the "Troubled Teen Industry" [TTI] (wilderness programs, bootcamps, and conversion therapy), LGBTQIA+ related trauma, and other identity trauma. Dr. Giboi also has lived experience and a growing specialty in working with survivors of abusive and unethical treatment programs under the formerly titled "Troubled Teen Industry." She is currently building a protocol to better target, process, and re-empower from such specific traumatic and identity-harmful experiences. By doing so, she hopes to help survivors “land” in a therapy that improves treatment outcomes, including the facilitation of relational safety and reciprocity, targeted trauma processing and reprocessing, and enhanced authenticity, meaning, and growth!
